FREIGHT CHARGES. (Australian Pre.se Association) ;Received this day at 9.41) a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 8. An important decision has been reached by the Council of the Australian Oversea Transport Association, having as its object the rationalisation of shipping 1 in handling Australian exports, stabilisation of freights at present levels and eventual reduction in freights. Freights on wool except that shipped to Japan and United States will he increased by one-sixteenth' of a penny per pound and “loyalty” rebate of Is 9d per bale on greasy wool and Is 6d per bale on scoured wool will be made at the end of the season. A compromise lias been reached on the question of payment of freglit on refrigerated cargo on a basis of London sterling, shipowners agreeing to meet half the cost of exchange. Exporters of butter and fruit agreed to this proposal. The meat industry decide the question next week.
