CRUELTY CHARGE
SNOUT CUTTING OF PIGS

TAIHAPE, Sept. 5
Timothy O’Dea, a butcher of Tailiape, was charged before Air Watson, S.M., on Thursday on information by the Wanganui Society of P remit ion of Cruelty to Animals, with cruelty by hutting the snouts of ninety pigs. An instrument called a hog nose' cutter was used by defendant, and two assistants, inexperienced with instruments. The snout in many instances was cut up to the bone and jagged pieces were left. A fortnight later many of the animals were still suffering from proud flesh from frequently plunging their snouts in the water trough.
The Alagistrate said the evidence proved conclusively that proper care was not take and that an instrument with a 'blunt and jagged blade had been used.
Defendant was fined £3 and costs £5 Bs.
