HOSPITAL BENEFIT

JUVENILE BALL

1 r«*r*‘ }

The crowded attendance at the Soldiers’ Hall last night when the juvenile Inneiimi of the year transpired, was evidence of the continued popularity of the annual event. There was a remarkable aggregation of fancy costumes. Over 200 children were present in character dress, and a brave display they' made. All concerned arc to be congratulated on the wonderful spectacle produced. The' hall was lit brilliantly with additional electric lights kindly installed by the Kaniori Electric Ltd., and a scene of varied color and interest resulted. Much ’ingenuity was shown in the preparation of. many of the costumes which represented a great variety of novelties. Most of the costumes were entirely new for the occasion, and several novel ideas were worked out. The whole was a really remarkable spectacle. The same judges as officiated the previous evening acted last night—but they had a heavier task—in fact an ordeal. The judging took - substantially over an hour. So difficult was the task of making a decision satisfactory to those responsible. Most of the tiny tots received prizes, but the full list of the awards appears below. The. Parry phono supplied most of the music, hut "was augmented very, suecosstujly by the' School.'Orchestra, wi*b Miss "Robinson at ' the piano. .The young folk performed most acceptably and their services' were/a. feature of thp evening’s entertainment'. As before, the mei'pbers of 'the H.os■pitai" Board were. keen ,in doing, all they could for' patrons. Tn thgt. speet, Messrs Breeze, Jeffries, David-, son and, Wells .were, to.,tjie. fore, and gave generous service. The ladies’ . committee bad "their ta?k ; in supplying refreshments, to upwards of 4CO children and to a. large number or adults. But all worked--cheerfully, and a very happy gathering passed off most successfully. The takimrs for the night were substantial, and the result of the benefit should be a, very creditable surplus to tire funds of the Hospital Board.
