CHARGE OF IDLENESS. Telegraph- -Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. Sub-Inspector Ward said the accused was a native of Auckland, and he had known the accused personally for a number of years. The accused made a pact ice of following race meetings throughout the country. He had, apparently, benefited by his experience in Australia, and he was regarded by the police as an expert pickpocket. The accused had broken into a conversation between two men outside a garage, and had brushed against one of them. When the man reached home, he missed his watch. The accused was later seen moving about in a suspicion manner on the wharf for the Sydney boat. About a fortnight ago, the Auckland police had inquired whether the accused was in Wellington, as they (the Auckland police) had intended to proceed against the accused on a charge similar to that now before the court.

The Magistrate, in sentencing the accused, said the police report concerning him was thoroughly unfavourable.
