NEW FASHIONS
VARYING SKIRTS.
United Press Association—By Electrs Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, Sep 2. The Fashions Exhibition at Olympia is a place of pilgrimage for English women, whether they are buyers for the trade or society leaders. The coming modes are displayed by some of the cleverest and most charming mannequins in the, world. The puff sleeves of the Queen Alexander age are revived for afternoon and evening wear. Bur shaping rounds the hips, with bolero effects, and tends to emphasise the selnderness of modern women. The length of the skirts seems to be dependent on the clock. For morning wear, the skirts reach the curve of the leg, and as the day goes on, they lengthen until they touch the ground after dinner, and even have trains.
The skills for day wear, however, are never beyond ankle length. Tiers of frills give an old-world air to many of the evening frocks, but the more sophisticate! designs are tucked, or swathed, with head embroidery in order to emphasise the allimportant waist and hip line. On the whole, the new designs require a great deal more material, which promises well for the textile trade.
