In the House of Representatives, the following Bills in the name of M Mason were introduced and read a first time:— Property Law Amendment, Education Amendment and Post and Telegraph Amendment. On the motion of the Acting Leader of the House it was decided that Government business should .-take 'precedence on Wednesday’s for the remainder of the session. The report of the 'Pensionjs Department was presented for discussion. A motion by Mr Samuel, that it should be referred back to the Government for consideration, and an amendment moved by Mr Parry that it should he referred back as an indication that old age pensions, and pensions for the blind should be increased, were “talked out.”

Consideration of the Unemployment Bill was resumed in committee. Several amendments were introduced by the Governor-General’s message. Labour members advocated a graduated scale of contributions to the unemployment fund, instead of a flat rate and Mr Savage moved an amendment to that effect that the contributions clause should he postponed. This was rejected by 46 to 25 and progress was reported. ! The House rose at 1.30 a.m.
