LICENSEES WARNED
POLICE COM PLAINTS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. -- WELLINGTON r . Sept. 1. If reports were unfavourable, licensees must not think that they cpuld get a renewal of their licenses, was the warning given by Mr E. Page S.M., at the quarterly meeting of the .Wellington Licensing Committee '■'today. Air Page referred to the fact that the police reports showed .that a number of licensees liad been convict ed during the last three months. The police pointed out that, two licensees had had more than one conviction, and that 1 ..they had Vaught them.iS'Slves within the provisions of Section 253 of the Licensing Act, which made their licenses liable to cancellation. . The police also said that there had been a number of instances where bookmakers had been carrying on their business in hotels and they suggested that the conduct of the licensees referred to was either wilful- or, careless. The police further suggested that judicial notice should he taken of those hotels when the renewal of licenses, was applied for in June next.
