N.Z. ACCOUNTANTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. At a meeting of' the Council ’of the New Zealand Society of Accountants Mr W. L. Revell, of Timaru, was elected President and Mr J. M. Elliffe, of Auckland, vice-president. FUNERAL OF EDWARD WALDIE WESTPORT, Aug. 31. The funeral of the late Edward Waldie, one of the victims of the Tiroroa tunnel tragedy, took place this afternoon, there being a lengthy cortege, including a large number of railway formation workers and the Public Works engineering staff. CHINESE STOWAWAYS. AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. Four Chinese, who arrived here by the Penbryn to-day from Suva, owe tlieir lives to wireless. When at sea (three days out from Suva), the captain received a radio that it was likely that there were stowaways aboard. The hatches of one hold were unbattened, and the four Chinese were discovered among the sugar cargo, and were nearly suffocated. But for the wireless massage, they would, have died of /suffocation and starvation,

STOWAWAYS FROM AUSTRALIA. AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. Five white men also appeared at the Court to-day, they having stowed away on the Omana at Newcastle. The captain said that twenty others had tried to stow, away. The men were fined the passage money, or, in default, 14 days. LAKE COLERIDGE., , , LEVEL UNALTERED. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 31. ....
