WOMEN POLICE
LONDON’S OPINION
L United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] LONDON, Aug. 30. Whether the women police of London should be increased or reduced is at present the subject of official review. Miss Dorothy Peto, formerly Di-rector-of the Liverpool Women Police Patrols, an unofficial body, has devoted two months at the instance of the Home Office, to investigate the problem. At present there are three hundred police-women in London, but the movement has in no wise the unanimous support of the judicial, the police, or the public authorities. It is contended that women are not suitable, on the grounds that they should not he required to perform duties involving the use of physical force.
Tt is also contended that women prisoners are more likely to tell the truth to men than to women.
The problem of the women police in London is likely to be settled by Miss Peto’s report, which the Daily Telegraph to-day forecasts will strongly favour increasing the number, despite all the objections.
