The authorities recently made a seizure of opossum skins in Otago said to he sent from the West Const unstamped. This method of handling the skins is quite illegal, and it is likely more will be heard of the matter. The Main Highways Board is limiting the wages on which subsidy will be oaid for work on the highways, to the rate paid by the Public Works Department, irrespective of what the local body rate of pay may be. The Public Works Department’s rate is 14s per day in this district, and the local bodies 15s per day.
