The very interesting rallistlientic display which a number of parents were privileged to witness the other evening at the Soldiers’, Hall, suggests how much in the interests of the rising generation for the benefit of physical training; a well organised gymnasium would be in the tmtn. At the recent ipmi-public display the young ladies engaged performed splendidly, and showed what apt pupils they had been under the first class tuition provided. It would be <] nite in the interests of the young folk to see a qualified instructor secured here, and tak& regular 'lasses for both sexes. Now that military training is suspended, the growing vouth are denied even the benefits of the periodical physical drill, ahd It would be a good thing if a gymnasium mold be equipped iuider qualified direction to supplant the lost opportunity for the coining generation. This Is a matter tvhich does not Come within the scope of any existing organisation, but it is of such importance to the rising generation who are to be the future men and women of the place, and that some public men and women should come forward and to establish such a school of instruction and training. Under proper management such an organisation should be able to pay its way with public performances, so that there need be no fear of any special financial burden. It would be a matter of 1 nitial organisation to secure premises and a qualified instructor and demonstrator, and, left to the teacher, it is evident there, is the aptitude and talent here to produce results highly beneficial to the trainees who would become attractive exponents, of finished performances In that way not only would the members of the dub derive valuable physical benefit, but they would acquire a knowledge ■ of their work which would in itself be always an attractive entertainment for the public. It seems to be largely a matter of initiative and organisation. There is plenty of good material to work on—last week’s display indicated that fact. In the interests of the young folk, therefore it .is hoped there will he those willing to come forward and assist in inaugurating such a useful club for the benefit of of the young men and women of the town and immediate district.
