EMPIRE MIGRATION
DOCTOR’S VIEWS. i United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph .—Copyright.] ' 'WINNIPEG, Aug. 27.' 1 The British Medical Association, at its conference here, devoted " some' time to the question ’ of migration within the Empire. They discussed the problems,’ and it was generally agreed that Canada and Australia must stop immigration for the present until their economic conditions are stabilised.
A paper in this section was presented l>y r Dr Purdy, of Sydney, and sponsored by Dr Barrett. It was further agreed that the medical inspection of immigrants should lie limited to a certificate from responsible medical authorities that the immigrant was not likely to become a burden to state. It was agreed .that a meticulpus examination was unnecessary.
It was finally agreed that the Dominions, while extending every facility to migrants and assisting their passage, should inform them that, after their arrival in a' Dominion, the responsibility for their success or failure must rest wtli the migrant, and not with the Government.
