CRICKET AND EMPIRE. -The series of test cricket matches just concluded in England has been, followed with very great interest in New Zealand, particularly in view of the fact that this country has now begun to send her teams to the Home '■'* Land. Not only in New Zealand have the test results been eagerly awaited, but throughout all other parts of the British Empire, and oven on the high seas. The huge scores that have been made by the Australian batsmen, particularly the meteoric Bradman, have raised some very difficult problems. Many old cricketers believe that the continued improvement of the playing wickets provided has given the -hat so definite a. mastery of the ball that bowlers are becoming discouraged awd so the game is in danger of languishing. Chapman, the English cap- ' \ytain of the first four tests, declared after the last game that not only was Bradman a. menace to English cricket, but that if he came over to England more than once he would be the death of English cricket.
