new YORK, Aug. 27. Soldiers’ Eield at Chicago, the athletic contest between the athletes 1 of the United States and of the British Empire was held in tho presence of thirty-five thousand people. Out of the fourteen events the United States won nine and the Empire five. Results:—

Four Miles Relay Race.—The - British 'Empire won, with a team comprising:' Domes, Walters, Whyte and Thomas.' Time 17 mins 22 4-5 secs. In the mile relay, Williamson (U.S.A.) outraced Bragwin (Britain) by three yards, but Long was unable to stand off a rush' by Golding (Aus--trail a), who gave-the Empire a twr ...yard margin. Walters maintained-this Mead'against Lewis, and Wilson added a yard against Williams. Bragwin (Britain) dropped the baton near the finish of his quarter mile, and the other.-Britishers ran without a baton, but' There -' was, no American protest ;’
