Advice has been received from Los Angeles (California) that Lon Chaney, the motion picture character acto, died to-day of lobar pne'.iui trim.
Lon Chaney, known as ‘ The Man of a Thousand Faces,” was probably the greatest actor from the point of view of characterisation that the (ire. ma had produced. He was born in 1883 in England and started his career on the legitimate stage. His great powers of make-up soon attracted the attention of Hollywood, and as a 'Paramount artist he made his name famous. His 'best-known films are “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “East of Suez,’’ “Mr Wu,” and “The Miracle Man,” with which lie first gained his sobriquet. At the time of the illness which ended in his death, he was engaged upon making his fi’rst talkie, “The Unholy Three,” in which he had. Already figured on the silent screen. He was unmarried.
