'financial. —The financial position has continued to show improvement, apd as a result of the Reason's operations, the outstanding debt has l>een practically wiped out 'bank debit balance at present being only £1 7s Bd. The receipts for the year amounted to £ll/1 Od (including. .£2O 12s 6d net proceeds of ball) and ■i-the - expenditure was £B3 14s, en-’ abling the bank balance of £2B 18s 2d to be reduced, by over £27 10s. -Steps should now be taken to relieve • the guarantors of their liability for the Club's former overdraft. Tournament.—The 4. annual West ICofi/st Centre tournament was held UasC. year• -at Westport. There was l|brne comment in connection with the draw, which was altered at the last moment following the discovery that the second green (at Sergeant’s Hill) .was not fit to play tournament games on. This caused 'the number of; ’games played individually /to be cemcsiderably curtailed. In other respects the tournament passed off very en-; i-ipyably and ..successfully, the West-; • ! poT? grCert’.being in its usual perfect “oriditiori. The alteration of the Jraw was a Centre matter and was dealt ! with at the time. Another controversy avhich has. arisen in a sister club meeting is also a matter for the Centre to deal with and can be left to your delegate to be dealt with ‘-in the ordinary course of its business. The Westport Club secured all the honours of the tourney, Mr F. Blaxall and. his rink securing the link championship and Mr T. Ryan and Pettier the pairs uhampionship, while the chnmpion of champions singles 'games resulted in the success of Mr 0.-Sara, after a very fine exhibition of bowling. b- The Green.—The condition of the green ' last season again was very ' satisfactory winning the commendation of players. During the off season some top dressing was carried out which should cause further improvement to .the playing surface. The bank surrounding the green lias ; -ilso had attention being raised several' Riches -all round* Wud. s'iiouliU prove. of decided value, assuring more safety and comfort for players. Tlie surroundings have also received attention and the general condition of 'fife green and environs should again be . very satisfactory. Thanks are due to the several members who put .in. .many hours of labour in the -oUUrSe of effecting 'these inaprove- ,. merits.
Competitions.—The singles championship was again won by Air DStevenson,- for the ninth time’, after an .interesting 'competition. The pairs competition for 1 valuable trophies presented was only partly played, ,and. it will be necessary to arrange p a . Jinethod of play that- will enable 'this competition to be completed. During last season visits were made, to and returned by the Grcymouth and Runanga Clubs and interesting games resulted. The Badges were played for. and won from Greymouth, then lost to ltunanga, and later Greymouth having won them from Runanga, Hokitika again won them from Greymouth, only to lose them again to Runanga, but in the final match of the season Hokitika again secured them, from the Grey Club and are the present holders of these trophies. The Ladies.— Again we have to thank lady supporters for their kind assistance during the season, and with the annual "ball, . which again proved very -successful, returning a substantial profit. . Conclusion. —Some attention is necessary to the pavilion, including painting, while it is suggested that some improvement proposed be arranged for at an early date. 'Several members, owing to removal, district, have dropped out, and efforts should be made to keep up the membership. Any increase in - playing members will prove of great advantage. Wishing members a successful and enjoyable season, * The balance sheet showed the receipts totalled £lll 4s 6d (the principal fern's being subscriptions and donations £B2 7s, and net proceeds, of ball £2O 12s 6d) and payments £B3 14b, the bank balance being re-
heed from £23 18:; 2d to £1 7s Bd. Received. .
