COWARDLY ASSAULT
A VICTIM OF FOUL PLAY.

WELLINGTON, Aug. 27
Admitted to the hospital 'with a gashed head and cut hands a man named Leslie Wilson alleged he was the victim of foul play. It is stated lie came to ‘Wellington from Te Kuiti and was seekiug a room in which, to spend the night. In Abel Smith Street he was met by two men and he inquired whether they knew of suitable rooms. The pair said they did and asked him to go with them. ;,
The party went along towards the Basin Reserve and \yhen they were near the rear gate of the Technical College, it is alleged that Wilson was struck over the head with a full bottle of beer being knocked unconscious and then robbed.
At this stage, ytlie caretaker of the Technical College put in an appearance and the assailants made off. The police were called and Wilson was taken to the hospital, where he was found to have a gash on the forehead, another, wpund at the 'back of the. head'and ctrtk upon the hands.
