A message from Lima (Peru) states:—Augusto Leguia, who ruled Peru under a virtual dictatorship for eleven years, resigned and fled t°* wards Panama aboard a cruiser.
Military insurrections started a week ago in southern Peru and spread like wildfire under the leadership of Colonel Sanchez Garro. There was no fighting at Lima 'but four citizens were killed.
A DISMISSAL ACTION. (Received this day at 9.40 a.ra.l CAPETOWN, Aug. 25. Professor Duplessis’ action against the Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church, whereby he seeks to nullify his dismissal from the theological seminary at Stellenbosch University, opened before three judges of the Supreme Court, Counsel for the Synod held that the court could not override the Church Court on the question of doctrine. Plaintiff’s counsel argued that plaintiff had not broken any church doctrine, The interpretation of all contracts rested with the civil courts,

RUGBY, August 22.
The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr A. V. Alexander, accompanied hv Rear-Admiral Chetwode, left London yesterday for Malta, the headquarters of the Mediterranean Command, where he will discuss naval matters with Admiral Sir Erie Chatfield, who recently took over the command.
