Mr Legge, commenting on reports that there was an average grain shortage of four hundred millions of hush-: els this year, advised the stock men to meet this condition of things immediately by feeding their stock with a “mixed ration, including rye, barley, oats and wheat,” in order to avoid any foolish (and unnecessary price .irises later in the year. He said : “We want to. get the livestock feeders to adjust tnemselves quickly to conditions such as they have not had to face for 2d years.” Mr Legge spoke contemptuously of the so-called “Wall St. farm exporters” who objected to feeding wheat to swine because in at procedure would produce less lard, which, according to Mr Legge, woidd l)e welcome to the packers.
