A NOVEL EXCUSE
ACCOUNT COLLECTOR’S SPEED. , AUCKLAND, Aug. 20. Charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning with speeding in Manukau Road, Alfred Janies Taylor offered a .novel excuse for his breach of the regulations. Defendant said he was employed by a city firm, and, while motoring leisurely along Manukau Road, he suddenly saw a car in front of, him driven by a man who owed his firm a. sum of money. “I speeded up and gave clia.se,” said Taylor. He was still chasing the man when lie passed through a -traffic trap. ‘‘And were you 1 successful in getting your outstanding.account?” asked the Magistrate, Mr W. R. M’Kean. S.M. Taylor regretted that he had been unble to ,get the money. The Magistrate: I also regret that I will have to add. to your financial difficulties by imposing a fine of 30s and costs.
