Mr L. F, de. Berry, who has been appointed, headmaster of West. Christchurch School, is a well-known teacher and educationist. He has been thirtyfour years in the teaching service. Beginning as a. pupil teacher at the Grey District High School, he later was headmaster at Ah aura. He was then appointed headmaster of Cobden School, a position he held for seven years, when he came to the Hokitika District High School as headmaster. For over two years Air de Berry was headmaster of the Marton District High School, and later accepted a similar position at the Palmerston North Central School. After seven years there he transferred to take control of the Dunedin Normal School, where he has been since 1928. He has thus had twelve years’ service in schools similar in type to AVest Christchurch. Mr de Berry has graduated M.A. in Alentail and AToral Philosophy. He has also taken honours in Education and holds a Diploma in Education! Several schobl text-books have also been urnten by him. Air do Berry lias had considerable experience in the training of teachers while lie is also known as a lecturer. He is the present Dominion president of the Primary Schools’ Headmasters’ Association, president of the Otago Educational Institute, and a past president of the New Zealand Educational Institute. Air de Berry will take up his duties in Christchurch on Sept. 9th.
