MAN STEELS SHEEP
TO KEEP FAMILY ALIVE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association TIAiWERA. Aug. 21. Before Justices of the Peace at the Court to-day, Thomas Edward Bills, aged 27, a . labourer, pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence on charges of sheep stealing, involving seven animals, owned by A- B. Mugger-, idge and L. It. Hamilton, fanners, of Manutahi.
Tn a confession to the police, following the discovery of buried skins, the accused said he had secured only casual employment for the last eight months. He had used the sheep as meat for his wife and two children. He would not have committed the thefts if he had had money for food. Detective Itevell told the court that when he visited the accused’s house he found the. family was without money or ■food, and was practically, destitute. .a
