PARLIAMENT

THE COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. In the Legislative Council a motion was adopted expressing appreciation of the services of the late Sir George Hunter. On resuming the Council passed the Presbyterian Church Property Amendment Bill, Managers of St. Paul’s Pres'hyterian Congregation (Oamarii) Bill, Law Practitioners Amendment Bill, New Zealand University Amendment Bill, Judicature Amendment Bill, Prevention of Crime (Borstal Institutions Establishment) Amendment, Bill and Coroners Amendment pill. The Finance Bill was received from the House and passed. The Council adjourned at 5.25 p.m. THE HOUSE. In the House of Representatives, the Shearers Accommodation Amendment Bill (Mr F. Langstone) was introduced and read a first time. The House adopted the customary motioii df condolence and adjourned at 3.i0 p.m. till 7.30 as a mark of respect to the memory of the George Hunter, On resuming at 7.30 Hon. 0. \V. Forbes laid on the table the committdj’s report on tho l Unemployment Bill. The committee’s amendments were to (OXjclude co-opted experts : bedoming members of the Unemployment Board and provides for maximum fines of £IOO and £2O respectively for offences under the Bill. The Unemployment Bill was sent down for the committees. Land and Income Tax Amendment (Bill, Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill, and an amendment to the Finance Bill were introduced by Governor-General’s - message and read a first time. The House adjourned at 10 p.m.
