Last night’s audience at the Princess Theatre gave uproarious approval fto “Honky. Tonk,” Warner Bros, latest talking, singing, Vitaphone picture, which features Sophie Tucker, “last of the red-hot mammas.” The shimmy-shaking, coon shouting, hrst lady of jazzland, is cast as hostess of a New York night club, where she also acts as entertainer. She has educated her daughter, all the while keeping her in ignorance of the way in. which she earns her money. Complications arise when the daughter re turns and when a tipping young millionaire comes.; on the scene. The supporting cast includes Lila Lee, Audrey Ferris, George Duryea, Mahlon Hamilton, and John T. Murray. There is}' a captivating beauty chorus to add to the gaiety of the night club scenes. Leslie S. Barrows wrote the story of. “Honky Tonk,” which w;as adapted for the screen by 0. Graham Baker. Lloyd Bacon is responsible for the ex-, cellent direction. Sophie Tucker isthe inimitable and inextinguishable centre of the show—singing five new songs: “I’m Doing What I’m Doing for Love,” “I don’t Want to Get Thin,” “I’m Feathering a Nest for a Little Blue Bird,” “He’s a Good Mart to.
