FEMALE LABOUR
IN N.Z. IRONWORKS. By Telegraph—Per Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 19. When employers in the ironworks industry approached tlie Arbitration Court recently with proposals for important amendments to the award covering tlie manufacturing section of the trade, the Court directed that the matter be referred to the Conciliation Council to enable the parties to endeavour to reach ail agreement. The employers’ proposals were meant to provide for a dilution of labour, partly by the employment of females. To-day the parties met before the Conciliation Cbmmmissioner. Representatives of both sections were present from the four centres. The conference ended in a complete deadlock. The Union representatives refused to discuss the employers.’ .proposals for labour dilution.
