A ROBBERY
JEWELLER’S SHOW CASE SMASHED. (By Telegraph--Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 20. One of the most daring robberies in Auckland for many years, was carried out last night, when a glass display case at the entrance to David Silk’s jewellery shop was smashed and thirty diamond rings valued conservatively at £3OO were removed. The thief or thieves worked under a floodlight and were not detected, although four constables patrol Queen Street at night. It is believed advantage was taken of the noise caused by the automatic drills being used in a tramway job nearby. Treacle and paper were used to deaden the sound and prevent the glass falling.
