A warning to trespassers is issued by Mrs M. A. O’Brien, of Kokatahi, Owing, to tbe West Coast Competitions in Greymouth being held this week Mr R. T. Rush will not hold his usual classes in St. Andrew’s Hall on Saturday, 22nd inst.—Advt. Destruction of game by stoats and weasels was reported at a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, when it was stated that the depredations of these pests made the liberations of pheasants impossible in several districts. One member reported that the extermination of the kiwi in many districts could to a large extent be attributed to stoats and weasels. and another mentioned the case of a farmer in the Raglan district w.ho had several lambs killed by stoats, Tt was decided to secure reports from the sub-societies before approaching the Government for permission to destroy ground vermin in districts that are free from rabbits. To-night the special event for the townspeople is the Military Rail at the Soldiers’ Hall. This has been on the tapis for some time, and is looked forward to always with great interest. This year is not any exception, and the spacious building now provided for large assemblies, is sure to be crowded to-night by a largeparty on pleasure bent. The management has been at pains to prepare as fully and as completely as possible fc* tbe pleasure and comfort j of patrons, so that the visitors com-1 ing from all parts will have a jolly time. The hall is nicely decorated and the floor in good order. With a first class band, dancing will be a pleasant pa.sibime indeed, and the whole function should be an outstanding success.
