OBITUARY
MR J. A. FLESHER. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 19. The death occurred / yesterday of Councillor James Arthur Flesher, O. 8.E., barrister and solicitor, at the age of 65 years. Air Flesher was taken ill some months ago, and never recovered his usual health. He had been a member of the City Council for, the term 1893 to 1895, 19.18 to 192U,' and was Mayor from 1923 to 1925. He was elected a councillor again in 1928, and was Mayor of New Brighton from 1915 to 191.7. He was elected to the Christchurch Tramway Board in 1906, and was Chairman from 1913 to 1916. He was still a member at the time of his death. Air Flesher was connected with several other local bodies, and also with the Red Cross Society (Chairman), and was a member of the Executive Patriotic Fund and of the Canterbury Progress* League (of which/ lie was President from 1929 to 1930). The death of Mr Flesher causes the third vacancy so, caused during the present Council’s term.
