RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSN.
HOKITIKA BRANCH. The' monthly meeting of the Committee was held at the Soldiers’ Hah last evening at 7.40 o'clock. Present; Messrs 1). J. Evans (President), T. Stuart, Brown, A. U. Armstrong, V. Bade, G. Gilchrist, Eade, T. Lynch;* Bleach, Paterson. Apology tor absence was made on behalf of Messrs Afenzies and Appleton. Correspondence was : read from Headquarters N.Z.R.S.A.; it was resolved to write the Government and tlie Member for 'the District regarding the desire to give. legislative effect to the Rehabilitation Report; to supply list of members; to apply ior £SO unemployment grant from die Canteen Fund, and expend same ; rider subsidy through the Borough ouneil; to arrange through the Christchurch branch, subject to the approval of Headquarters, for the supply of poppies. Air W. Leadley notified he would be touring the South Island shortly i a the interests of membership. The hire of the Hall to Smith’s Band (Christchurch) for December 27; and to the Black Hand Orchestra for December 31st was approved. It was agreed to pay the same contribution for copyright fees as arranged last year. A vote of thanks was passed to the Red Cross, Christchurch, for' the supply of comforts "for the hospital patients. Air J. O’Brien, ALP., replied that it was intended to< move an amendment to the Gaming Bill’ permitting euchre tournaments to be held.—Received with thanks. The Secretary submitted a statement of the finances disclosing a satisfactory position. Alessrs Armstrong; Lynch, Paterson and Bleach were appointed a subcommittee to organise an old time dance at a suitable date. One small account was passed for payment. ; GENERAL AIEETING. At 8.30 at the conclusion of the Committee meeting a general meeting was held regarding adoption of rules. Mr Evans presided and there were 17 member? present. , Air Paterson (Secretary) brought down the rules as drafted and kindly revised by Air Brown. These were accepted and adopted. Arrangements were made for affixing the seat, and it was . resolved to apply for registration under the Unclassified Societies Act. Afr J. Pealte was appointed hon. auditor and eleven new members were elected. The meeting concluded at 9.20.
