AIR WARFARE

WHAT BRITISH EXERCISES SHOW

[United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]

LONDON, Aug. 17,

1 The British air exercises ended in tlie mimic Powers agreeing to accept the mediation of the League oi Nations. The pace set h.v both sides was evidently too hot for a long campaign. Detailed results of the fighting are not yet available, but apparently tlie Blue 1 Colony achieved the aim of reducing the Red Colony to chaos, but at a tremendous cost to its own forces. The exercises vividly illustrated the destructive nature of modern warfare. During three days lighting three important towns and a large sea port were rendered unable and otlieis much damaged, but 100 planes were lost in the process. If tlie war had continued the Blue Colony might not have been able to have made good its success. The manoeuvres clearly show that an enemy, working at a reasonably short range, cannot be kept out of neighbouring territory, or prevented from doing serious damage.
