SURPLUS WHEAT
CHANGED TONE IN CANADA
[United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.]
WINNIPEG, August 14
A denial was made here to-day on behalf of the Western Wheat Pool, that they had asked the Prairies Province Governments to guarantee financing for this season’s wheat crop, or that financial stringency and the position of markets made it necessary for the pools to confine their business to wheat alone.
It was stated that coarse grains would also be handled as usual.
Intimation that the banks would continue to underwirte the financial opportunities of pools are expected to have a far-reaching effect on the Continent’s wheat market. Free selling occurred in Winnipeg yesterday. This is said to have been for Chicago’s account, and not for the pools. . The total carryover of Canadian wheat this season, which has included a quantity in bond ir. the United States was 128 million bushels, or the same as last year. Based on a four hundred million bushel crop for all Canada, the total supply, however, is now figured at 528 million bushels, ngainsc only 428 millions for 1929.
