Members of the British Rugby team who visited Blenheim for yesterday’s final match of the New Zealand tour, returned to Wellington last night. The tourists are now 'busily engaged in preparing for their departure for Australia on Friday. The team is to Iks officially farewellecl by the New Zealand Rugby Union at a function on Friday, when each of the tourists will be presented with a New Zealand travelling rug. S. A. Martindale, one of the team, who has been receiving treatment in a private hospital, was back with the team to-day. OTAGO BEAT HAWKE’S BAY. •DUNEDIN, Aug. 13. Otago beat Hawke’s Bay to-day by 17 points to 11, in a game which provided some spectacular play. Foi Otago, Bfadanovich scored three tries and Lucy one, Lindsay kicking a penalty and converting one. For the visitors, Roach and Campbell scored, Evans converting one and Grenside kicking a penalty. MANAWATU V. HOROWHKNUA. PALMERSTON N-, Aug. 13. Manawatu defeated ITorowhenua a' Palmerston North to-day, in an intei-sub-uniou game. The final result was Manawatu 37, Horowhenua 3. WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held at Greymouth last evening. ’ Those' present were: Messrs A. A. Adams (Chairman), T. Mclntosh, T. O’Donnell, J. Guy, W. Hannam, T. Scott, A. White, F. Eggletori, W. Pring, I. Steel, W. Williams, T. Ryan, F. Wilson, J. McLeod, N. W. Jones (secertaryj. Mr Pring moved that Mr A. Adams the Grey selector, get in touch with Mr Dowell, Westland selector, and pick the West Coast team to play Buller at Westport on Saturday. This was carried. f A request was received from the Westland sub-Union that the senior B representatives match set down to be played at Victoria Park be postponed, if possible, on account of five of their players .taking part in a boxing tournament next Saturday evening ....•■Members... Messrs Kennedy Bros.’ tender was accepted lor the conveyance of the West Coast team to Westport. Mr N. W. Jones was appointed manager of the team, it was decided that the Westland players leave Hokitika at 7 a.m. on Saturday and that the team leave Greymouth at 8 a.m. Mr W. Hannam was appointed manager of the Senor B. team, which is to assemble .at the Park Hotel at 2.1 d p.m. Mr F. W. Baillie was appointed manager of the Junior Rep. team to play Westland Juniors at Hokitika, the team to assemble'at the Railway Station at 12.30 p.m. The reclassification of M. Gordon, "of Cobden Club, from senior to junior, was granted. Greymouth and Hokitika primary schools’ team were granted permission to play a “curtain-raiser” to the senior B. match at Victoria Park. Mr W. Williams was appointed referee. cobden fourth grade team were declared winners of the fourth grade competition. It was decided to institute a two-rounds Konck-out Competition in this grade. The President considered that it was about time that the senior competition was concluded. Interest seemed to have been lost in the games. Mr Wilson stated that if Rivals defeated Excelsiors, and Stars Uniteds, Rivals and Uniteds would then be 19 points all. and would have to play off in the final.
It was stated that the competition, be concluded and Uniteds lie declared winners. The motion however, was, after discussion withdrawn, and Mr Mclntosh moved that another game be played, which would more than likely decide tire competition. The motion was carried.
The President' stated that i'F they put on another fixture it must be Rivals and Excelsiors, as when this game was postponed on account of the Dittmnn Shield nViitch, it was decided that if the playing of this game affected the competition, it had to be played.
