A SOCIAL AFTERNOON

An in,teretitig gathering took pi®*?®; yesterday afternoon at St. Andrews Hill when the members of St Andew’s Guild entertained the members of the Methodist and All Saints’ Wo-, mens Guilds. Mrs Parkhill was the hostess for the afternoon and extended a cordial wel- ome to the visitors, expressing the hope that an enjoyable aftenion would be spent-. During the V-ourse of two pleasant hours spent two competitions were held, the winners being Mrs Duff and Mrs Telford, while a number of vocal items were very successfully given, the vocalists being Mesdames Parkhill, Telford, Malloch, and Harrison, and Misses Davidson, while Miss' James rendered a recitation. The occasion was taken to make presentations to Airs Nelson Wright (All Saints). One came from St. Andiew s Guild per Airs Parkhill, and another from the Afethodist Guild per Mrs Knowles Smith, the. latter also piose.ll ting a pretty bouquet. Both ladies expressed regret- at the approaching departure -of the lady, who had made many friends during her stay in the town. Airs Wright in 1 the course; of returning thanks expressed her “great .surprise at being singled out .and assured'those present ! of'her deep i appreciation of the -gifts, ..arid good wishes, offering her ready assistance -at any tirfie Wheriin::Christchurch if she could he of service to anyone. Mrs Knowles Smith phjbeiiEfi of the Methodist Guild also made a, presentation to Airs Hayward .(S.t..Androwe’s) who i» also shortly leaving the district, In the unavoidable absense of the latter lady Airs Parkhill took charge of the present and also a pretty bouquet and promised to convey the - good wishes extended to the recipient. Afternoon tea was daintily provided and a very happy afternoon came to ;i■ successful conclusion with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
