THE HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 12. In the House of Represntatives the estimate of £90,000 for legislative departments were passed. A number o ,f 1 new customs resolutions, affecting duty on tobacco, timber, spirits and watches were adopted. The duty on timber and spirits was increased while that on watches decreased. The method of applying duty on tobacco was modified. Tlie Customs' Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor General message and read a first time. During the course of the debate, on tlie' second reading, Mr J. McCombs moved an amendment recommending the Government to pay a subsidy To wheat growers in lieu of- the present duty.
