RECKLESS LORRY DRIVER
COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE

GISBORNE, August 13
Run to earth by a motorist alter a chase of ten miles on July loth, a lorry driver, Peta Mua, or Peter Moore, 33, off Tolaga Bay was comm it teed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr Harper S.M., at the Police Court yesterday on a charge that lie did negligently drive a lorry thereby causing injury to Noeline Kidd, aged nine. The evidence showed that accused, who pleaded guilty, was driving a lorry with three Maori companions from Gisborne towards Tolaga when lie knocked a girl off a bicycle near an inter-sec-tion. Accused was travelling on the wrong side of the road at a speed of over 30 miles according to the estimate of a witness, and did not stop after the accident.
A motorist Leslie A. Potts, saw the accident, gave chase and overtook the accused about 12 miles from Gisborne. Potts took the names of the accused and his companions and inspected the lorry, noting certain damage, before allowing it to proceed.
Detective McLeod stated accused strenuously denied knowledge of any accident when interviewed three days Inter.
The girl was suffering from a fractured jaw and arm and severe bruises and according to the medical evidence there is a likelihood of permanent disability.
