WESTLAND SUB-UNION. MONDAY, AUGUST 11. The Sub-Union met at 8, p.m. Present i—Messrs H. M. Coulson (Chairman), McGregor, Mora, Breeze, Stafford and Heenan. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WARD COR R ESPONDENCE. From W.C.R.U. re allocation of test tickets.—Received. From Waiho School application for a football. —Received; to be supplied. From Referees, reports on matches. — Received. In the case of an United player ordered off, consideration was referred to the W.C.R.U. MATCHES FOR SATURDAY.
Senior B. reps., Westland v. Grey at Greymouth.
Junior reps., Grey v. Westland at Hokitika, (Mr J. Mora). It was resolved that all trophies ho handed in to enable the winners names to be engraved and made ready for presentation at tlie annual Presentation Ball on September 24th in the Soldiers Hall* Trophies to be handed in by Monday August 18th; Air McGregor moved, by notice.— That a Westland Rugby Union be formed incorporating the whole district. After Mr McGregor had outlined the position ‘at some length, the motion was seconded by Mr'Mora and carried on the voices. ■ : ’ ■;
A special committee was set up to collect all data ,and prepare the necessary details, for the formation of special rules and conditions preparatory to making the necessary application.
It was resolved to recommend the reinstatement of J. Lamberton, Hari Hari, from League to Rugby.
GREY JUNIOR REPS. The following team ha,s been selected to represent the Grey Junior representatives in their match with Hokitika on Saturday.—L. Lindbom (Cobden), Sloss (’United), Smith (United), Michin (Cobden). McGrath (Kumara). Garth (United), Gordon (Gobffen, Captain), McNight (United), Barnes (Kumara), Wilson (Cobden), Tanner (Kumara), Shuttleworth (United), Bolitho 1 (Cobden), Cooper (Kuinara), Hewlett (Cobden). They were given a civic reception by His Worship the Mayor and representatives of the Rugby Unions. At the visitors’ special request, qo further formal functions were held. 1 The weather does not promise very well for to-morrow’s match. The British team is:—Bonner: Morley, Jennings, Knowles, Bowcott; Tones-Davies; Murray; Wilkinson, Dunne, Ivor Jones, Black, Beamish, Parker, H. Jone(9. and O’Neill. ALL BLACK CAPTAIN. HIS RETIREMENT. WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Before he retires from, active Rugby football, C .G. Porter, captain of the New Zealand and Wellington team l *, wit] see “the present season out. He said this to-day, in answer to an enquiry concerning his plans. Some Wellington supporters, when' Porter announced at the dinner to the British team on Saturday that lie was giving the. game up, thought that the All Black captain intended to shed his jersey immediately. He said ho, would not take part in any more matches. Porter says that he was only referring to international games when he said “this is my la/st game for New Zealand.” He told a reporter to-day tliat he would continue to play for his club and province until the end or the season, and would -then make room for a younger player. FOURTH TEST TAKINGS. WELLINGTON, August 11. The fourth Rugby test takings are reported as approximately seven thousand sterling. The attendance was over forty thousand but, the exact figure Is not available yet. NEW .SOUTH WALES TEAM.
