VETINERARY SURGEON FINED

GISBORNE, Aug. 6,
At the Police Court this morning' Frederick Valentine, a vetinerary practitioner, was fined five pounds on a charge of giving prescription for a dangerous drug, a tincture of opium for purposes other than animal treatment and was> convicted and dischargI /)<• edj on a further similar charge. Mr Hlifjier, S.M.,’ dismissed, the "charge of. failing to keep a proper register of all transactions in relation to the •disposal of, the drug, pointing out there was 1 doubt as'to whether accused dispensed the drug from his own premises. Evidence showed accused had used 72 ounces of tincture of opium in the form, of fomentations for treatment of trouble with Ills, knee.. LEWIS ACQUITTED. OTAGO SHEEP STEALING DUNEDIN, August 6. The grand total of sheep and lambs put through for the season is 278,299, which is easily a record for the workp.
