MINERS REFUSE TO WORK .

LIVERPOOL MINE IDLE. • (By TeJegraps— Per Press Association.) ■ GREYMOUTH, August 5. The Liverpool mine was idle to-day, the men refusing to work, the Railway Department : being the object of the protest strike. , “All the men returned home from Rewanui,” stated Mr J. A. James (Superintendent of the State Mines), “as a protest against the Railways Department not providing a; traip for wet time men yesterday, before, or about 4.20 pirn.. Under; the ordinary circumstances the train Tor wet time men leav es Rewanui at about 3 p.m,' Testerday the train left Rewanui for Duhbllie about 2.30, p.m. and the men claim this train should have:been delayed instead of keeping the men waiting until, the train went to Dunollie, and back to Rewanui.”

Approximately 250 men are affected by the stoppage but it is expected they will resume work to-morrow.
