THE KAHIKA
A ROUGH EXPERIENCE, (By Telegraph—Per Prew Association GISBORNE, August 2, 4fi Encountering a strong southerly gale off Castle Point on Sunday afternoon July 27th, the steamer Kahika bound from Gisborne to Dunedin, was unable to make headway owing to shortage of coal. The vessel which was hi exceptionally light trim was driven north over 250 miles off her course. The storm dropped on Thursday morning, the Kahika thpn being a few miles north of East Cape, arid proceeding to Hicks Ray without further mishap. ■ The Waimui was dispatched on Wednesday night and successfully towed the Kahika to port arriving here on Friday night. The Kahika received a severe buffeting during the drift north, heavy seas frequently beating over the "stern. The Kahika replenished her bnukers to-day and is expected to sail to-night for Dunedin,
