NEW SAMOAN LAWS

CONTROL OF IMMIGRANTS

The control of immigration in Samoa is the subject of regulations issued in the Gazette on Thursday. The regulations come into effect on August 11th. and are known as "The Samoa Immigration Order, 1930.” It is provided that no person shall land in Samoa without authority from the Administrator unless a declaration has been delivered to Customs or police officers.

A sum not exceeding £SO to be named by the Collector of Customs must be deposited to meet the cost of transportation in the event of prohibition. Permanent residents of Samoa returning after temporary absence are excluded from this demand, or persons who lodge a. ticket valid for five years or who indemnify the Administration against the cost of a passage from Samoa. Persons of other than British birth and parentage will require permits to land in which they must declare that they have never been in prison or in a mental hospital, or in benefit of charitable aid. They must also depose that they ere not “dangerous persons” or advocates for the overthrow by force of violence of constitutional government.

Temporary permits may lie granted to foreigners for permits not exceeding six months, hut extensions are allowed.
