MANCHESTER CHANGES ITS MIND.

I ' The residt of the referendum of members of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce on the question of fiscal policy is announced. Altogether 3,941 noting papers were issued, and 2,343 votes were recorded, The voting was as follows:—In favour of Free Trade 607, in favour of Safeguarding 986, in favjdur of a general protective tariff on ;impori(3, including raw material and foodstuffs 232, in favour of a general protective tariff on imports, excepting raw material 196, in favour of a general protective tariff on imports, excepting foodstuffs 27, in favour of a general protective tariff on imports, excepting raw materials and foodstuffs 295. These figures show that 1,736 votes were cast for a change in fiscal policy.
