At the annual meeting of the Winton Jockey Club, the following recommendation was made to the incoming committee : That if the, proposed increase in taxation comes into force, all of the country clugs combine in a petition to Parliament in order to protect the permit of aiiy club, forced to go out of existence until such time as that club is able to carry on again. AIASTERTON; July 31.
The Masterton Racing Club, at its annual meeting to-night, passed a resolution of protest against the proposed increase in the tote tax.
DUNEDIN, July 30. At the annual meeting to-night of the Dunedin Jockey Club, it was decided that the Club emphatically protest against any increase in the tote tax. .
NO 'MORE'TAXES,
WELLINGTON, July 31. Replying ,to a large deputation of school committeemen and others to-day Hon. Mr Forbes said it was impossible to find more mpney without, again going to the taxpayer, and that was out of the, question. The taxpayer was already called upon to the. limit of liis capacity.
