Action on the Australian or New Zealand Treaties will not be taken by Mr Bennett, the Premier elect, for months. Hie whole matter of tariff revision and the new Budget is to await Air Bennett’s return from the Imperial Conference. To meet the situation of the unpassed Liberal Budget, with some tariff changes already effective, and others pending, Air Bennett will retain the Aliinistry of Finance himself, until after the Conference. It is not considered likely that he will carry o-ut-, in its entirety, his campaign views, that both Treaties should be abrogated in favour of building up Canadian industry by the imposition of h : gh tariffs.

All* King was e’ected member of Paliament for North Waterloo, Ontario, 1908-11, Prince Edward Island, 1919-21, New York, Ontario, 1921-25, and lie has represented Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, since 1926. He was engaged uopn ali investigation of liidustrial relations under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation from 1914-17. At the National Liberal Convention at Ottawa, in 1919 be was selected to be the late Sir Wilfred Laurier’s successor as the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, and was Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons in 1921. On the defeat of the Conservative Government in the elections of that year he assumed office as, Prime Minister, and continued In' power till 1926. He represented Canada at two Imperial Conferences, and received numerous honours both in Canada and Great Britain. He resigned the (Prime Alinistership in 1926, but following the General Election in that year was returned to office.

Richard Bedford Bennett, who will be the next Prime Minister of Canada, was /born at Hopewell, New Brunswick, in July, 1870. He was educated at public and high schools, New Brunswick and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova iScotia. He was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1903, and commenced practice at Chatham, New Brunswick. He removed to Calgary, Alberta, in 1897, and was a member of the Legislative Assembly of North-West Territories from 1898 to 1905, and of the Legislative Assembly, Alberta, from 1909 to 1911. He wa,s member of Parliament for Calgary in the House of of Canada from 1911-17, and of Calgary West since 1925. He was Director-General of National Service until the passing of the Military Service Act, 1917. In the Meighen Administration he was Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, 1921, and was Minister for Finance from July to Sejptemher, 1926. He has been leader of the Conservative Party in, Canada and Leader of the Opposition since 1927. Mr Bennett was president of the AJberta Division, and member of the Executive Committee' and Central Council of the Canadian Red Gross Society from 1914-19, and twice represented Canada at Geneva for the League of Red (Voss Societies and International Red Cross Society. Ho accompanied the Canadian Prime 'Minister to England, France, and Belgium in 1916.
