There has been a great mass congress here of Eastern women, which has been attended by delegates from every Moslem country. It has concluded after weeks of discussion. It n. presents the first concerted move by women to escape from tlie bondage of Islamic customs.
The most outstanding decision of tlie conference was the abolition of the veil, allowing women to appear barefaced in the streets. Other decisions were that the bridegroom and bride shall he permitted to see each other before marriage, and also the regularisation of divorce, making it possible for a wife as well as a husband; and that 18 years be the legal'minimum age for marriage.
