MAN BURNT TO DEATH
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Samuel Wilson, aged 64, single, a labourer, was burned to death at Sefton early this morning when his cottage was destroyed by tire.
THEFT CHARGE.
CHRISTCHURCH, July 31
In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Herbert Ormond Lawrence, aged 30, was remanded to 4th, August, on five charges of stealing £BO, the property of the Government, from the Addington Post Office yesterday. Bail wan allowed, self in £2OO and one surety of £2OO.
It is alleged that the money was stolen from a counter while a clerk had bis back turned, and that tins sum was later recovered from a hedge, after a chase down a street.
CASES SETTLED. PALMERSTON N., July 31.
The announcement is made by the Supreme oourt that a series of cases in which injunctions'were sought by N.Z. Breweries, Tui Brewery, Taylor and Cov., and Auckland Bottle Coy. against S. W. R. Evans, have been settled.
It was alleged that defendant had been using bottles of the 'firms referred to and lie agreed to an injunction restricting him from doing so. His Honour made an order in accordance with (lie terms of the .settlement.
