TOBACCO PRICES
RISE AT WELLINGTON,
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 30. A wholesaler’s circular announces new rates for cigarettes and tobacco which operates from to-day. Popular lines of cigarettes will be 9d. for ten. The tobacco increase is 3d to 4d lb. The cigarette increase generally is" about 10s 6d a thousand.
WELLINGTON July 30. The Wellington retail tobacconists to-day advanced their regular lines of cignrcttes\from 8d to 9d. Some lines of tobacco are affected by the exchange to the extent of Id a tin. Cigarette tobaccos have advanced to Is 6d which plus 2d for papers, is dearer than loose cigarettes, at 24 and 25 to the ounce at Is fid.
Air R. W. Arinit, the President, said that there should , be no advance on cigars at present, because there are plenty in the country, which can be purchased at the old duty price. J ' Asked how it would affect cigarette smoking by women, he did not think that it would make, any difference, as they were now thoroughly accustomed to smoking.
