SCULLIN’S OFFER
TO FACE ELECTORS. (Australian Press Association) CANBERRA, July 25. A vigorous defence of the budget was given in the Federal House by the Prime Minister. Mr Scullin said that he did not mind constructive criticism, but he saw no justification for wholesale condemnation that had recently been heaped upon the Government by the press and 'by its opponents. I Mr Scullin said that if it could be Isubstantiated that any of these (barges Were true, then lie would gladly hand over the reins of office to those who could undo any wrong that the Government had done. Mr Soullin detailed a. long list of economies that have already been effected. He declared that lie. saw no reason for a reducing; of the Parlia<mentary or the public servants’’ salaries. He assured the House that the Government was making a sincere effort to balance the ledger and at the same tim© keep faith with its 1 finan 7 cial obligations liere and abroad. The Government, said ' the Prime •Minister, had to face facta. It had taken drastic actipn.to stop the drift, and it hud necessarily done come unpleasant things, It was determined to make further economies and if necessary, he would, face the electors at any time. , . a:. .
