FERRY STEAMER MYSTERY
PROBABLY A HOAX. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. The police are still investigating the mystery started by the finding on board the ferry steamer Maori of a wallet with a note stating that the owner had jumped overboard during the night. So far nothing definite has been ascertained. Letters in the wallet gave the name o'f a New Plymouth resident, but it is stated that all of these bear the date 1908. This lends colour to the theory that the note-was left as a hoax.
