MODERATES INTERVENE. TRYING TO SECURE SETTLEMENT [United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright-.] 'Received this day at 8.30. a.m.) DELHI, July 23. Sir Fej Bahadur Sapri and Mr M. Jayakar well-known Moderates, in accordance with authority from, the Viceroy, visited Gandhi in Yervada gaol, near Poona, in an endeavour to secure a settlement of tlie political situation. They had a four hours’ interview with him in his cell. They afterwards saw Mrs Sarojini Naider, ex-President of the Congress Party who is in an adjacent cell. Though the result of the talks are unknown, it is stated Gandhi expressed himself fully aware of the situation throughout the country. It is thought Sapru and Jayakar placed before Gandhi certain teims which lie asked till to-morrow to consider.
