LATE LOCALS.

The whole skin of a. grizzly bear recently shot in Alaska has been received in Dunedin by Major R. M. McFarlane, who, last autumn, returned from the Antarctic. It is Relieved to be one of the largest skins of the sort ever taken, and the skull is with it. The Major asked for a grizzly skin, thinking it would do for his home, but it is so big, about 12ft. across, that he does not know what to do with it-, and in the meantime it lias been placed in a shop for inspection by those interested. The team of horses formerly trained by the late J. Beban, were on Tuesday handed over to H. Donovan, who has made application for a trainer’s license. He had been again engaged to accompany N'ightmarch to Australia, and A. McAulay will now have to look out for another attendant. Donovan will start off in his new post under favourable auspices, as the team, which comprise Topere, Audience, Appeal, Sapient and The Clan, are all well forward and on the verge of racing condition. None of these horses were nominated for the Christchurch Hunt Meeting, but Topere, Appeal, and The Clan, figure in the list for the Grand National gathering. The first-named is destined to contest the Winter Cup, and will be a starter in the Claremont Hondicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club Meeting on Saturday. Donovan has had a life-long experience with horses, and his association with this useful team promise to bear happy results. A scientific fact—“Nazol” disinfects and protects the circle of infection, the nasal and bronchial passages. Inhale regularly as a preventive for coughs, cold's and influenza. New double svse contains 120 full doses for 2s 6d.
